What We Believe

Some people ask us, ā€œWhat Are Your Beliefs?ā€ The response is simple. We believe in Jesus. We have faith in Him. We trust Him. We are loyal to Him. So why do we believe in Jesus? Here is why.

A Reflection by Bishop Peter Elder Hickman

Christianity is all about Jesus. It always has been about this Jewish man from first century Galilee.

He is not only the messenger, He is the message; He not only proclaims the Gospel, He is the embodiment of the Gospel; Jesus is the one and only ā€œWord of Godā€ that ā€œbecame flesh and dwelt among us in a particular place and at a particular time in human history.

He not only reveals the Divine to us, He is, in his very person, Divine; He is the Son of Man, the Messiah, and He is the Son of God, the savior of all the world.

Jesus is not only a prophet, He is the Prophet, the culmination of all the prophets, Who has come into the world.

Jesus is the eternal Divine Word through which the universe came into being and is constantly sustained; Jesus is the Redeemer who redeems all of creation.

Jesus is the One who gives us the Living Water of the Holy Spirit who satisfies our deepest thirst for eternal life; Jesus is the Light of the world who overcomes the dark power of the evil one and death; Jesus not only feeds the world with the food of eternal life, He is the Bread of Life; Jesus is the Good Shepherd who leads us into the place of peace and contentment; Jesus not only raises the dead, He is, in his very person, the Resurrection and the Life.

He is the Gate to heaven; the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of all the world; the Lord of Love, and the rightful ruler of every human heart.

Jesus is Emmanuel, ā€œGod in our midst.ā€

Our only responsibility as His disciples is to remain in loving union with Him so that His life becomes our life. To remain in loving union with Him means that we must surrender ourselves to Him that He may present us to His God and Father in order that Divinity may be all in all.

So, you see, it is all about Jesus, and it always was. This is who authentic Christianity is all about.
